Challenge:
A large financial services firm faced a substantial spike in its travel expenditure vs the previous year even though the number of outstation meetings decreased.
Our Solution:
AEG Travel analyzed the unusual spike in the company's travel expenditure through its opportunity loss report. This report highlighted that for around 40% bookings the travelers chose airlines with higher fares while for the same itinerary other low-cost carriers/budget friendly airlines were also available. For e.g. In bookings from Karachi-Dubai Emirates airline was chosen majority of the times instead of Flydubai which is more cost friendly.
Furthermore, the client was also informed that this year 60% of their business travel bookings were made with less than 10 days of travel left. They were advised that if these bookings were made earlier the cost would drastically decrease.
Thus, the inefficient travel management on the clients' end was highlighted. To optimize travel expenditure a travel policy was proposed by AEG where the travelers were obliged to plan international travel at least 30 days before travel. Moreover, an approval mechanism was developed for all international travel so the management could ensure that budget-friendly airlines were chosen.
Results:
Cost Savings: Reduced travel expenses by 30% through implementation of the travel policy & approval mechanism.
